Director and Teacher

Brittanica Maxter

she/her

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Brittanica has a profound love for the outdoors and a deep-rooted commitment to nurturing curiosity and exploration in children. With 15+ years of experience mentoring young learners, she brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to her role at Wild Whimsy Forest School.

​

Brittanica holds a Master’s degree in Education and is certified in Play Therapy. She is also a Wilderness First Responder, Lifeguard Trained, and a certified Leave No Trace Trainer. Brittanica designs engaging programs that blend playful, effective teaching methods with adventurous activities. Her curriculum includes social and emotional learning, American Sign Language, conservation, plant identification, wild crafting, regional history, and visual and performing arts.

Brittannica’s diverse interests include social justice, harmonica music, photography, food, hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding, basketball, cake decorating, martial arts, magical storytelling, and various art forms. An accomplished visual artist and woodworker, Brittannica integrates her passions for drawing, watercolor, fiber art, and sculpture into the educational experiences she creates. Her dedication to these passions enriches the Wild Whimsy experience, fostering a vibrant and dynamic environment for every child.

Teacher

Kacie Grice

she/her

Finding solace and inspiration in the natural world, Kacie brings this passion into her role as a teacher. With a decade of experience in Early Education and seven years dedicated to classroom teaching, she has developed a profound understanding of nurturing young minds. 

​

Kacie's core values focus on fostering a sense of belonging, encouraging authenticity, sparking fascination, and championing the freedom to pursue curiosity and wonder. These values not only shape her interactions with students but also guide her approach to creating inclusive and engaging learning environments.

​

Drawing from a diverse array of educational philosophies including Waldorf, Reggio Emilia, Montessori, and RIE, her pedagogy reflects a mosaic that prioritizes adaptability and resourcefulness. Kacie firmly believes in tailoring learning experiences to meet the unique needs of each child and the dynamics of their community. Kacie is also fluent in American Sign Language which comes into lessons everyday.

Central to Kacie's teaching philosophy is a deep-seated belief that the environment serves as a revered teacher in itself—one that warrants respect and invites attentive listening. Embracing this ethos, she aims to cultivate in her students a profound appreciation for the world around them. Her goal is to nurture lifelong learners who embody compassion for the environment and actively contribute to shaping a brighter future.

Administrator and Community Teacher

Becca Medwedeff

she/her

Becca's journey into outdoor education began in her own childhood, where she spent countless hours playing in the dirt and exploring nature. Raised in a tight-knit neighborhood that taught her about geology, botany, astronomy, and the arts, Becca developed a deep appreciation for the natural world and its educational potential.

​

Becca’s academic background in Art and Psychology informs her approach to curriculum development and material creation, blending creativity with psychological insights to support holistic child development.

 

With over a decade of experience in education and childcare, Becca has a diverse background working with children from preschool through 12th grade. Her roles have included general education teacher, special education assistant, tutor, nonprofit worker, county services provider, juvenile justice advocate, restorative justice practitioner, camp counselor, Peer Assistance Leader, community organizer, and nanny.

 

Outside of school, Becca enjoys cooking, hiking, camping, paddle sports, and artistic endeavors. She cherishes quality time with her spouse, friends, pet cat, and snake, finding joy and inspiration in her personal adventures. 

 

Becca believes that working with young people is sacred work and meaningful lifelong learning starts now. She believes in the power of community and is dedicated to synthesizing her extensive experience to cultivate a nurturing environment here at Wild Whimsy, where children and their families can thrive.

Community Teacher

Bryan Parish

he/him

Bryan loves adventures.  Originally from Eau Claire, Wisconsin Bryan spent most of his youth hiking, camping, and canoeing the Northwood’s of the Midwest.  Bryan fell in love with summer camp and has spent over 20 years working with summer camps in Washington, Idaho, Minnesota and Wisconsin. He has a passion for enabling youth to experience the wonder and magic of the natural world around us.

                

Bryan holds a degree in Developmental psychology; specializing in wilderness therapy. He holds a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and Lifeguard certifications and has extensive field medicine training. Bryan also has run facilitation workshops for corporate and private clients, including High and Low Ropes course.

               

When not out on an adventure you can find Bryan kicking a soccer ball or singing proudly at the Sounders games. Bryan lists laying in the sun with his feet in the water as one of his favorite things to do. Bryan loves Mike and Ike’s and his favorite Dinosaur is a Plesiosaurus!
